Software Frequently Asked Questions

Software:

1. Q. How can I go from Detailed Mode back to Simple Mode?

A. The program only allows the user to go from Simple Mode to Detailed Mode because there is potential for loss of data in going backwards to Simple Mode.

2. Q. I don’t see AEEAP in the dropdown list at the top of the ECAT32 page, where is it?

A. Hide Pricing is likely on.  Go to the File menu and uncheck hide pricing.  Close ECAT32 and restart it.  AEEAP should be available.

3. Q. AEEAP will not run.  I click the Go button but nothing happens.

A. You might not have .net framework 2.0 installed. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en).

4. Q. Under payback analysis, the payback period is zero. Why?

A. The payback is determined with respect to the first alternative.  If the equipment costs are the same, then there is no payback period.  If alternatives equipment costs are less than the first alternative’s cost, then the payback period is instantaneous.

5. Q. I am using MS Office 2000 and the output to .doc feature does not work.

A. With the next release, we are addressing this issue, and the Word 2000 will no longer have this problem.

6. Q. How could I implement a return air bypass system.

A. The return air bypass can be modeled via the Fan powered boxes system type, because they are psychrometrically equivalent.

7. Q. I have Windows Vista, and the program doesn’t let me open files once they are created.  How come?

A. This may be an issue with Vista allowing access to the C:\Program Files location.  Saving the files to a location on the drive other than under the C:\Program Files location should solve the issue.  For example, create a new file under the C: Drive called AEEAP save files, and save to this location when running the program.

8. Q. How do I compare a Forward curved fan to a plug fan?

A. Switch to detailed mode. For the first alternative pick forward curved, and set the supply fan efficiency and supply motor efficiency accordingly.  For the plug fan, select plug fan and input the appropriate supply fan and motor efficiency.

9. Q. I set up the economic rates in the Economics section, how come this isn’t reflected in the analysis?

A. Rates are created in the Economics section, but assigned in the Plants section under plant costs.  Remember to assign costs in the plants section.

10. Q. I am getting strange heating results from my simulation, what happened?

A. One reason this may occur is a cfm mismatch between the zone and the system.  In the System Zone Parameters form, set the zone required supply cfm.  In the Air System form, set the system design supply air rate to satisfy the total zone cfm requirement.
